Next Month

Next month's outing is at Fort Ord's Bayonet course. Prior to the base changing into public hands, this was a military only tract. We play on Sunday the 17th and the cost is $110. You'll need to get your word or your money in by the 3rd of April and that's only a few days away.

Hime mentioned the chance of playing either on Saturday the 16th or Monday the 18th at a different course in the Monterey area. If you're interested in a bonus round, let your voice be heard.

Here's the webpage.

Boss Of The Moss

Kent K was the boss of the moss with only 29 putts. Overall putting amongst the members was better on this day, 13 players were within 4 putts of the leader.

Par 3's:

4) Hime 10'9"
8) David G 25'6"
12) Mark Q 42'
16) Dale P 12'4"

Note that on the 12th hole Mark Q was the only one of us to even hit the green off the tee. Except for Mark, we all suck.

A Flight Winners

Dale P 76
Hime 78
Rick W 79

Long Drive- Ed C

Gross:
Hime 87
Dale P 90
David N 93

Only 6 of the 11 A flight players broke 100.

B Flight Winners

Mike S 70
Rick Q 75
Danny J 76

Long Drive- Danny J

Gross:

Danny J 94
Mike S 96
Rick Q 98

These were the only B flight guys to break 100 gross.

Looking At 16 Tee

Here's Moon just hitting his tee shot while Rick Q looks on. You can see Mel T heading off into the shit.

Top Of The Course

IIRC, this is #13, from the tee box. From this point, the course gently descends down towards the clubhouse. You can see that the sky was pretty clear later in the day. It did cloud up and even sprinkle over the Altamont Pass on the way home. But we were dry all day.

This Hole Needs A Drop Area

I think that any par 3 with water like this needs a drop area. A drop area would keep play moving and stiffs like myself wouldn't keep on hitting balls into the briny deep. Dayton Valley does it right, they have drop areas for the par 3's with water. Don't forget we're returning to Dayton Valley for this year's Daddy Longball.

Mark Q Showing Nice Form On The First Tee

Jimmy B and I played with the Quinzon's on this day and it was a nice time. They're a good twosome to play with.
I must apologize to the Q's as my poisonous play must have been difficult to watch. It was sure difficult in the first person.

On The First Tee

Its almost a shame we didn't play the Legends course this next Sunday as I bet after a week of sun and no rain that the course would have firmed right up and been in a much more playable condition. Still, for the amount of rain and all, there were some dry spots out and about on the fairways.
Here's a couple of shots taken on the first tee box. We had the times from 10:00 to 10:50. And, we got a late start. This was not unexpected, as the course decided to have carts on the path only and that makes for a long, long round.
With as many swings as I took, it felt like a marathon.

Mel T And I

Mel and his brother Jimmy are from Hayward and go back a long time with the Valencia/Reardon gang. I gave Mel a bad time on the last par 3, #16, when he was sadly off in the shit and spent a few strokes and balls hacking his way out. If he had known my score he could have given it back as I played to the least of my abilities on the Legends course.
In fact, in looking at the scores, not many of us played all that well. The ground was so soft that there was no roll to be had on any of the holes.

Howie And I

Here I am posing with Howie A. He's played in almost all the Daddy Longball tournaments in October and is a regular at the monthly outings. A few years ago (IIRC) he hit a hole in one at one of the monthly events. Good for Howie!

Back To Diablo Grande

Last Sunday was our second outing at Diablo Grande, just outside Patterson. Instead of the Ranch course, which we played in January, we played the easier Legends course.
After a week of solid rain, the course was really green. It was also pretty mushy in spots. It didn't rain on our round, though the clouds came off and on. We did get a little bit of blue sky and for me, it was short pant weather.
Here's Jimmy B, Howie, and Moon at the putting green prior to teeing off.

Time's A Wastin'

There's still a few spots left for Diablo Grande at the end of the month. Make the positive decision and get your money in.

Just An Update And A Forgotten Picture

I forgot to add this view off the veranda at the clubhouse that looks at the 9th green. It was easy to see the approach shots to the green while having a bevvy.

Chuck sent me the rest of the days results:

A Flight Gross:

Dave G 84
Hime 87
Ron S 89
David N 89
Dave F 89

B Flight Gross

Danny J 91
Moon 94
Howie 98
Ron K 98

And it was Mark Quinzon who won low putts with 33, in a tiebreaker with Kent K. Sorry Mark, I just don't know you by sight yet.

Diablo Grande- Legends

The Daddy Longball Golf Club returns to Diablo Grande to play the Legends Course on Sunday March 27th. First tee time is 10:00. The cost is $85, due by March 13th and there are 28 spots to fill.
Hime played this course two weeks ago and said it was in great shape. He also mentioned it was easier than the Ranch Course. For the A flight players, the Rating is 1.0 less and the Slope is 2 less. For the B flight players, the Rating is 1.8 less and the Slope is 1 less. Both flights play to about 300 yards less on the Legends than the Ranch.

Moon Wins Today

Moon wanted a special post to say he won the B flight and one of the closest to the pins. He was a happy camper today as he admitted to hitting the ball well. It showed with a net 67. So, here ya go Paulie, here's your post.

Closest To The Pin

4th) Moon 25' 1"

7th) Howie 6' 2"

11th) Kelly 6' 11"

14th) David G 19' 3"

Boss Of The Moss

Sadly, I don't know which one of the Quinzon's this is. So, I need a little help from one of you so I can correctly edit this. But, here's our Boss of the Moss for today. Oscar and I shared a cart and we combined for over 90 putts, so we were nowhere close.

Upon Edit, this is Mark Quinzon. I've got to get better at knowing everyone in the club.

B Flight Winners

1) Moon Net 67

2) Danny J 73

3) Howie A 74

Long Drive- Kelly S

A Flight Winners

1) Dave G Net 71

2) Dave F 76

3) Ron S 77

Long Drive- Dave N

Mike Sexton And Myself

Here I am posing with Mike S. He's head of the "Pirates", who have played in the Classic for a number of years. He also puts on a nice tri tip spread at Joint Venture in Tahoe on the Friday night of the practice round.

More Members

Powering down from the round, getting our shoes changed and our clubs in the car.

My Playing Companions

I played with Dave N, Oscar and Hime on this day. I've never met Oscar before and it was good to play with guys I don't normally play with. None of us played all that well.

Still On The Course

I can't remember what hole this is, but I'll take suggestions in the comments and edit. The course drains well, there were only a few mushy spots on the entire course. Hime mentioned that the good drainage is one of the reasons we play at Saddle Creek in the winter.

Towards The Clubhouse

This is taken from the tee on #9. You can't quite see the water guarding the front and right of the green from the tee, but it is there. By the time we got to 9, the breeze had died down and we got the nicest part of the day on the back 9.

On The Course

The bottom pic is of the empty driving range and putting green. With a shotgun start we all went out at the same time.
The top pic is on #3, looking towards the hole from the dogleg right.

From #1

Here's a nice shot of the fairway from the tee box on Hole 1. Even on a fairly easy hole like this one, there was trouble everywhere. One thing about playing golf with the Valencia's is that they always play challenging courses. Its much different than playing cheaper, public courses in the Bay Area. For a hacker like me, its a good thing to play nice courses with the Valencia/Reardon gang.

Getting Ready

We had a shotgun start from holes 15-18. In the upper left you can see the line of carts of players at the driving range and putting green. The breeze had picked up and it was still chilly, but later in the round the wind died down and it turned out to be a really nice day, considering it could have been a really crappy day had the weather gods not smiled upon us. It still wasn't short pants weather and most everyone wore some kind of sweater, sweatshirt or long sleeves.

Our Outing At Saddle Creek

Last Sunday was the second outing of the Daddy Longball Golf Club. Over 20 of us braved the chill and drove to Copperopolis to play the course. There was a chance of snow on the Saturday before the Sunday of our round, but it was all media hype. Sunday morning found the members bundled up pretty good, this wasn't a day for short pants.

In A Couple Of Days

I'll have the results and pics from the Club outing at Saddle Creek in a day or two.
